Seattle Spine and Sports Medicine
Bothell, WA
Matthew Grierson, MD is the Medical Director for the Seattle Clinic for Performing Artists at Seattle Spine and Sports Medicine. He graduated from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his PM&R residency and a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Washington. He co-founded a free clinic that provides care to uninsured or underinsured performing artists, and also works as one of the team physicians for the Seattle Seawolves (Major League Rugby).
Dr. Grierson served as a member of the the AAPM&R Delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA) from 2011-2015, and has also served on the board for the Washington State Medical Association since 2011. Dr. Grierson enjoys working with other Academy members to ensure expanded access to care for our patients, to help ease administrative burdens, and to better navigate the continual challenges to fair reimbursement for the work we do as physicians.
In 2015, he joined the AAPM&R Reimbursement and Policy Review Committee to gain a more detailed understanding of our payment system and to contribute to more in depth work on physician reimbursement. He was appointed by the AAPM&R to serve as the Academy’s representative to the AMA-Resource-Based Relative Value Scale Update Committee ("the RUC") and in 2017, was appointed to the Relativity Assessment Workgroup (RAW) and has worked with the Workgroup to identify potentially misvalued services.
In 2019, he was the first physiatrist elected to serve on the AMA-RUC, a two year position. He looks forward to raising awareness for our specialty, which includes both procedural and non-procedural services, and bringing the unique perspective of a priviate practice PM&R physician to the committee as it continues its efforts to appropriately value physician work.
