Coding expert Linda Duckworth will review changes to inpatient evaluation and management coding, which took effect January 1, 2023. These changes reflect the most significant update to inpatient evaluation and management coding since 1997. This session will include a breakdown of the guidelines and code descriptors for encounters taking place in the IRF and SNF settings. Linda will discuss the updated medical decision-making calculation, its impact on code selection, and explain the new guidelines for time-based billing where Medicare differs from CPT. Specific coding scenarios will be discussed. Attendees will also have ample time to ask questions about the challenges they've had with implementing the new codes and documentation requirements.
