Dr. Weppner graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine followed by General Surgery internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. After his internship he spent six years serving in the United States Navy deploying twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Following discharge from the Navy he completed a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the University of Virginia and Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Weppner’s personal awards include the Purple Heart Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with valor device, Navy Achievement Medal with Valor Device, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Dr. Weppner’s research interest include the role of inflammation in post-TBI seizures, the influence of chronic inflammation on post-TBI behavior, application of accupuncture to the aquire brain injury population, and blast-traumatic brain injury.
