Abraham Alfaro, Ph.D., D.O. is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and subspecialty certified in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. His specialty is the diagnosis and treatment of Spasticity and Dystonia; treatments primarily include phenol nerve blocks and botulinum toxin muscle injections. Research includes phenol injections to anterior interrosseous, musculocutaneous, obturator and tibial nerves. He also has a Ph.D. in exercise physiology with research that focused on exercise-induced changes in blood coagulation, fibrinolysis and lactate. As an NIH post-doctorate and U.S. Public Health Service Fellow, his research dealt with hypertension induced changes in cardiac function and coronary blood flow. He was an attending for 24 years in a rehabilitation hospital. He now works in a Federally Qualified Health Center for AtlantiCare Health Systems, Atlantic City, NJ, where he treats patients who have neurological and musculoskeletal problems.
