Dr. Ryan Sankovic received his BS degree in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina where he graduated Magna Cume Laude with Leadership Distinction in Research, the Magellan Scholar Award and was named Outstanding Student in Exercise Science. He graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University. During medical school, Dr. Sankovic was a RREMS research scholarship recipient where he received The Electrode Store Award for Best Scientific Paper in the Medical Student category at the 2016 Annual Meeting for the Association of Academic Physiatrists. Dr. Sankovic completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Beaumont (Corewell) Health in Michigan and furthered his medical training with a one year interventional pain medicine fellowship at Detroit Medical Center. During residency and fellowship Dr. Sankovic focused on research to prevent the development of chronic pain in patients with traumatic brain injuries.
Dr. Sankovic is passionate about caring for his patients. In addition to helping improve his patient’s chronic pain he aims to improve their function and quality of life as well. His expertise lies in helping chronic pain patient improve not just their physical well-being but also their mental health which is often overlooked in patients with chronic pain. He believes building strong patient-physician relationships is essential to successful patient outcomes.
During fellowship Dr. Sankovic received extensive training in multiple treatment modalities for chronic pain conditions including CRPS, post laminectomy syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, sacroiliac pain, low back pain and many others.
