Dr. Timothy Tiu, MD, FAAPMR, CAQSM is double-board certified in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. After serving as Chief Resident at Tufts University, he completed his fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He stayed on as faculty before moving on to his current appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Tiu is an active member of several national societies, including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Association of Academic Physiatrists. He has been invited to serve in roles including session director, speaker, and course faculty at the national level, and regularly teaches medical students, residents, fellows, and colleagues. He is proficient in both diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, and specializes in the non-surgical management of orthopedic and neuromuscular injuries. He is most interested in ultrasound-guided procedures including joint and tendon injections, nerve blocks and hydrodissection, percutaneous tenotomy, and regenerative medicine injections including platelet rich plasma and stem cells.
With a true passion for sport, he has served as a covering physician for various sporting events, including the US National Figure Skating Championships, the New York City, Boston, and Chicago Marathons, the National Women's Hockey League, and mixed martial arts championship events. As a former athlete who no longer possesses the sheer strength and unyielding endurance of his youth, he focuses now on preserving and restoring function to patients of all ages and abilities.
