Medical Student
Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
Isaiah Yim is an MS2 at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. His journey into medicine began in high school, when he served at a medical clinic for a year in one of the poorest countries in the world, East Timor. Upon returning to the United States, Isaiah pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at UCLA, successfully graduating in 2020. Notably, he dedicated several years after graduating to meaningful work in a mobile geriatric clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic. This experience further solidified his commitment to the field of medicine.
Despite being early in his medical career, Isaiah has demonstrated a dedication to PM&R. Collaborating closely with esteemed mentors, he has delved into critical aspects of PM&R, including pain management for neuropathic pain and spasticity post-spinal cord injury, the use of different pain management assessment tools, and the intricate nature of disability perception in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients. Currently, he serves as the co-president of the VTCSOM Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Interest Group, exemplifying his leadership and passion within the field.
Isaiah believes in a well-rounded approach to life, finding balance through diverse hobbies such as basketball, golf, chess, and the joy of cooking alongside his wife.
