This annual course brings together Pediatric Physiatrists in a self-organized effort to provide timely and relevant programming focused on pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation. Designed as part of the Academy meeting, this course will feature presentations from seasoned professionals as well as trainees and early career attendings. By intentionally incorporating new community members into the larger network, this course will promote continuing education, knowledge sharing, and fellowship. Taking place at the New Orleans Convention Center, this course is organized in partnership with the Academy.

Topics in development include:
• The history of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine – Dr. Maurice Sholas
We will review the survey results of the field about how we want to tell our story at Peds Physiatrists and then have an open discussion with presentation around the next steps for codifying the history of our subspecialty.
• Life Expectancy with Common Disabilities and Transition to Adult Care – Dr. Jensine Clark
• Adaptive Sports and Clearance to Play – Dr. Michelle Konkoly
• Dosing Considerations of the Botulinum toxins – Dr. Jessica Beardsley
• Limb Deficiency in Children – Dr. Phoebe Scott-Wyard
• Update on clinical trials for children with physical disabilities
• Update of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Maintenance of Certification - Dr. Sherilyn Driscoll
• Panel Discussion on the use of Medical Marijuana in Children – Dr. Aaron Karlin
• Update on Youth and Adolescent Sports Concussion Management – new guidelines from Amsterdam

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the status of Peds PM&R Credentialing and Board Certification Requirements.
  • Review the options for transitioning care from pediatric based services to adult based services.
  • Review Adaptive Sports and Clearance to Play in Pediatric Patients with Disability.
  • Update the status of Botulinum toxin dosing for spasticity and dystonia management.
  • Prepare participants for maintenance of certification for Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine.
