This session will provide a comprehensive overview and update on state, congressional, and regulatory activity with respect to health care delivery in various practice settings, payment reform and accountability, quality and practice improvement, physiatry's leadership in treating COVID-19 survivors, and disability and rehabilitation research. The session will also outline the Academy's ongoing advocacy efforts with an emphasis on recent successes and future plans to support members and the specialty in the current health policy environment. Additionally, feedback will be sought from the audience on AAPM&R's advocacy priorities to ensure it concretely impacts the membership's day-to-day work.

This session will also highlight new Academy initiatives and advocacy efforts to amplify the physiatric voice on topics including administrative burden, scope of practice issues, and patient access to rehabilitation services. Updates will be provided on the Academy's medical necessity project in collaboration with the OIG and IRF stakeholders.

Learning Objectives:

Educate members and attendees on the current health policy landscape and the impact of legislative and regulatory health care reform initiatives on their practice, reimbursement, and patient care.
Educate members and attendees on current Academy advocacy activities taken proactively and in response to health policy changes, and update members on the outcomes of our advocacy efforts.
Update members and attendees on Academy state activities and provide education on how members can become more active in their own states.
Educate and update members and attendees on new Academy initiatives and advocacy efforts to amplify the physiatric voice on topics including scope of practice, reimbursement, physician burden, pain management, and telehealth.
