Session Description: This session will consist of a panel discussion with four highly accomplished physiatrists who are anxious to share their experiences and advice on developing leadership skills. We will delve into their various career paths, ranging from private practice to academia with professorships, attaining leadership positions in private companies, national committees and advancement in our own Academy of PM&R. We will make sure to answer questions from the audience that are relevant to leadership skills and career advancement.

Why is this session needed? : Physiatrists are born leaders, since they are trained to lead interdisciplinary teams that provide patient care, communicate with other physician specialists and advocate for their patients. However, with their busy clinical practices, it is difficult to find the time to pursue structured education on improving leadership skills and identifying and pursuing options for career advancement as leaders in medicine. Only by obtaining a "seat at the table" can physiatrists be in position to affect change in the areas that affect rehabilitation care in this country. As more physiatrists become professors, medical directors and enter the C-suite, our reputation as a specialty will be fully recognized and we can truly make a difference in achieving health equity and the highest quality of care for our patients. This session will deliver highly relevant tips on advancing leadership in physiatric practice.
