In this small group active learning session, participants will rotate between 4 stations (20 minutes each), working together at each station to design and interpret an electrodiagnostic study. Cases will represent real-life presentations of spine disorders in the electrodiagnostic lab. With guidance from the preceptor, participants will sequentially select the components of the electrodiagnostic exam (NCS and muscles for EMG), revealing and interpreting data in real time. Participants will actively discuss the choices, interpret the data aloud in real time and design the study, with faculty preceptor guidance to steer the discussion. In summarizing each case, the faculty preceptor will emphasize key electrodiagnostic features and how to design the study to adequately evaluate these. He or she will address interpretation of borderline or atypical findings, and discuss which features to highlight in the electrodiagnostic report.

Learning Objectives:

Formulate an electrodiagnostic approach for patient presenting with varied intraspinal conditions.
Critically design and tailor an electrodiagnostic examination based on the clinical presentation as well as the data in real time as it is collected.
Interpret atypical or borderline data in challenging cases.
Determine the findings and features to report back to the referring provider and consider how our findings may influence care for patients with intraspinal disorders and their mimics.
