This course will use short lectures to set the foundation of orthotic biomechanics and impact on gait and engage the audience through video case presentations with interactive discussions and multiple choices to resolve the optimization of lower limb bracing prescription. Lower limb orthotics to improve walking are an area of known expertise for physiatrists, training in how to select and optimize these devices is limited as the complexity and variety of the devices and materials has increased over time. Understanding gait and applying biomechanics knowledge to orthotic prescription is essential and a current gap in knowledge. This course will use lectures and interactive video cases to educate the audience on normal and pathological gait and orthotic devices to address gait deviations and the resulting functional impairment.
