Two topics that are very germane to neurorehabilitation will be presented in a debate format. We chose this format because we believe that it will provide a more lively session that a typical didactic presentation. The first topic will center around the current role of robotics in stroke rehabilitation. While there has been tremendous growth regarding the development and use of a wide variety of robotics to enhance recovery after stroke, the research that supports the use of these devices is relatively weak. Basic questions such as for whom, when, how much and what type of robotic have not been answered. This debate will address these uncertainties.
The second topic will examine cognitive deficits after Covid-19 infection. The debate will focus on the etiologies of the cognitive complaints that are common in the post-acute Covid-19 population . We feel that better understanding of the multiple factors that can contribute to the cognitive difficulties reported (primary pathophysiological processes, co-morbidities, biopsychosocial elements, etc.) will help with more precise diagnosis and treatment of this problem.

  • Identify 3 gaps in knowledge regarding the implementation of robots in post-stroke rehabilitation.
  • Describe the multifactorial nature of cognitive complaints after Covid-19 infection
  • Discuss how the etiology of cognitive complaints post-Covid should impact management.
