This session will seek to help an inpatient physiatrist, particularly an (or aspiring) medical director, improve the quality of care provided to their patient population and grow as a leader. The first portion of the session will focus on simple interventions that have been implemented at other IRFs to make improvements in their own facility. The topics discussed will be wide-ranging to be as broadly applicable as possible to any inpatient physiatrists. Focus areas will include evidence-based and successful interventions to reduce the return-to-acute rate, increasing rates of on-time discharges, and increasing admissions to an IRF by broadening horizons and partnerships.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize patient characteristics that increase the likelihood of a patient returning to acute care
Identify aspects of care in an IRF that can be improved upon to improve the quality-of-care patients receive
Employ strategies and techniques to formulate and foster relationships to grow an IRF
Grow as a physician leader and learn how to utilize these skills to become a physician executive
