Dr. Marla Petriello is a PGY-5 spinal cord injury medicine fellow at Stanford University. A cum laude Biology and Exercise Science dual major graduate from Old Dominion University, she obtained her medical degree at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine where she received the award for Excellence in Clinical Research. During internship, Dr. Petriello was awarded the Preliminary Intern of the Year. She has compiled extensive research experience as an investigator on numerous single and multi-centered projects and has published manuscripts in Spinal Cord Series and Cases and Current Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Reports. She is currently working as an investigator on the Development and Assessment of SCI Model Systems Complicated UTI Consensus Guidelines project. During residency, she was a 3-time recipient of the Interdisciplinary Spirit Award and also received Georgetown University’s String of Pearls Award for her contribution to the education of medical students. In 2022, she was awarded Resident of the Year. She is an active member in several professional societies, including the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA), the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIP), the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP), and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She serves as a host and producer of ASIA’s SCI Science Perspectives Podcast. Dr. Petriello’s clinical interests include neurorehabilitation, spasticity management, and critical care rehabilitation.
