Elliot J. Roth, MD is the Paul B. Magnuson Professor and Chairman of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Attending Physician on the Brain Innovation Center of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago), and Chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He is the PI of a NIH project on combined robotic and pharmacologic treatment for post-stroke spastic hand, Project Director of the NIDILRR-funded “Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Health and Function of Persons with Physical Disabilities”, and former Project Director of the “Midwest Regional Traumatic Brain Injury Model System”, and several other NIDILRR projects. He also leads several other research projects supported by Federal agencies and private foundations, primarily focused on neurorehabilitation. Dr. Roth has published more than 150 papers in medical rehabilitation, has one patent, and has led teaching sessions with rehabilitation trainees for more than 30 years. He is Editor-in-Chief of Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation, and serves on the Editorial Boards of Archives of PM&R and other journals. He maintains an active medical practice, specializing in the treatment of patients with stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and other neurological disorders. A passionate supporter of the team approach to care and research, Dr. Roth emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration in his clinical and academic activities. He is widely recognized as a leading expert in interdisciplinary neurorehabilitation. An avid advocate for people with disabilities, he serves on the Board of Directors of Access Living, and a number of other non-profit organizations.
