Kurume University, Japan
My name is Hiroshi Tajima. I am a specialist in orthopedic surgery in Japan. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation at Kurume University Hospital. I graduated from Okayama University Medical School in 2017 and did my initial training in Kobe, Japan for two years. I joined the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Kurume University in Fukuoka, Japan in 2019. I spent 4 years completing the orthopedic surgery program and became a specialist in orthopedic surgery, and I am taking the program to become a specialist in rehabilitation medicine in 2023. At Kurume University, we are researching the relationship between pain and musculoskeletal disorders and exercise therapy combining voluntary exercise and electrical stimulation. We have studied exercise therapy using electrical stimulation for patients with osteoarthritis and patients with disuse syndrome due to long-term bed rest and reported that it reduced pain and improved muscle mass, muscle strength, oxygen intake, and metabolism. We are also researching exercise therapy using electrical stimulation for the prevention of musculoskeletal atrophy in a microgravity environment.
