Juan Andrés Cabrera, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in brain injury rehabilitation. He serves as the Medical Director for the Inpatient Rehabiliation Department at Texas Health Dallas - Presbyterian.
Dr. Cabrera earned his medical degree at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, in Mobile, Alabama. He completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he served as Chief Resident. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as well as Brain Injury Medicine. Dr. Cabrera joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019. Previously, Dr. Cabrera served as Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and both Assistant and Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio. He has held a number of medical leadership positions in San Antonio and Tennessee prior to joining UT Southwestern Medical Center.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Cabrera has presented at several conferences, as well as contributed to the third edition of Essentials of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
He has a professional passion for trauma rehabilitation, lifestyle medicine within rehabilitation and preserving the value for general rehabilitation in medicine.
In 2014, he received a Nashville Best Doctor award, and he was included in D Magazine's Best Doctors in Collin County list for 2020 and 2021. He is most proud of his family (Alison, Diego, Gabriel, Mateo...and a baby girl in 2023!).
