Joshua Martin, MD is the Director of Regenerative Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy in Potomac, MD.
Dr. Martin is a board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician with fellowship training in Sports and Regenerative Medicine. After gorwing up in Potomac he subsequently moved to Boston, where he attended Harvard University, graduating Magna cum laude with highest honors in neurobiology before receiving his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Martin completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Northwestern/ the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Afterward, Dr. Martin furthered his sports medicine training, completing a fellowship in Sports and Regenerative Medicine at the New Jersey Regenerative Institute, under the direct mentorship of Dr. Gerard Malanga. During his fellowship, he received extensive training in diagnostic and interventional ultrasound procedures, as well as regenerative procedures including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Microfragmented Adipose (MFAT), Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC), Tenex, and Sonex.
Dr. Martin is passionate about teaching patients and other providers. He has co-authored regenerative medicine chapters in multiple textbooks, including the sports medicine fellowship “Study Guide and Review for Boards” and “Clinical Guide to Musculoskeletal Medicine: A Multidisciplinary Approach.” Additionally, Dr. Martin serves on the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Biologics Curriculum Work Group, developing standards for teaching regenerative medicine to be used at residency and fellowship programs nation-wide.
Outside of work, Dr. Martin is a lifetime runner, previously captaining the Walt Whitman high school cross country and track teams. Having recovered from numerous sports injuries himself, he knows first-hand what it’s like to sustain these injuries and how to optimally recover. He believes in a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment, listening to each patient’s goals, while addressing pain, function, and injury prevention.
