Saloni Sharma, MD is the founder and medical director of the Orthopaedic Integrative Health Center at the Rothman Institute and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. In light of the pain and opioid crisis, she has written the best-selling book, The Pain Solution: 5 Steps to Relieve and Prevent Back Pain, Muscle Pain, and Joint Pain without Medication (foreword by Dr. Andrew Weil). She is dual board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Management. She specializes in the non-operative care of spinal pain and employs a multi-modal approach to spinal care including the use of acupuncture. At a national level, she is Co-Chair of the AAPMR Pain Management & Spine Rehabilitation Practice Area, serves on the Opioid Task Force, and sits on the Diversity & Inclusion Committee. She has advanced training in acupuncture from Harvard University, Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, physician well-being from Stanford University, and yoga from Parmarth Niketan in Rishikesh, India. Dr. Sharma has also studied functional medicine and mindfulness. Her goals are to innovate healthcare through a patient-focused, healthspan growth approach with less medications and more joy.
Dr. Sharma continues to publish research articles, textbook chapters, and teach residents and medical students. Her teaching skills were recognized with the Dean's Award for Excellence in Education at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. Dr. Sharma served as a Chief Resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and as Chief Fellow at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. She performs fluoroscopic guided spine injections, trigger point injections, and acupuncture. Dr. Sharma has spoken about wellness, improving well-being, and burnout locally and for Google.
