Dr. Helm is heavily involved in the residency department, as Director of the Musculoskeletal Rotation, Ultrasound Curriculum, and Anatomy Course. He is an educator at both University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Duquesne University Pain Undergraduate Research Experience Program. He is a strong advocate of comprehensive spine care.
Dr. Helm's research interests are in sensory restoration and phantom limb pain reduction in amputees. He also conducts research in the synergistic use of minfulness-based meditation and walking in the treatment of low back pain.
