Ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool for visualization of muscles and nerves that are treated with Botulinum toxin or alcohol nerve blocks. This skills lab will provide hands on training in using ultrasound guidance for chemodenervation procedures in upper and lower limbs. At the beginning of this course a presentation is given by curse faculty followed by hands on experience at different tables.
Why is this lab needed? Anatomic landmarks, EMG or Electrical stimulation are widely used for chemodenervation procedures. This workshop empowers clinicians to use ultrasound which increases the accuracy of procedures.
Lab Outline/Format:The most common muscles and nerves that are treated using chemodenervation in patients with hypertonia will be identified by using ultrasound. Different injection techniques of in plane and out of plane will be reviewed during the ultrasound session.

Learning Objectives:

  • Utilize ultrasound to identify common muscles and nerves that are treated using chemodenervation in arm.
  • Utilize ultrasound to identify common muscles and nerves that are treated using chemodenervation in forearm.
  • Utilize ultrasound to identify common muscles and nerves that are treated using chemodenervation in thigh.
