Session Description: Panel discussion to spark a conversation among the pediatric rehabilitation medicine community regarding the growing aspect of our field, inpatient consultative services. Having panel members from different regions of the country and different experience levels, we will present differences between consult services across the country including but not limited to attending coverage, APC assistance, patient mix and practice style. In addition, we will present average number of new and follow up consults per institutions. As these services are growing across the country, we will discuss collaborators in the hospital system and how these relationships continue to grow including services we collaborate with. We will also discuss management of acute traumatic injured including but not limited SCI, TBI, ABI and amputations. As this is a growing aspect of our careers, we will also discuss the importance of these services for trainees as future pediatric rehab physicians and discuss as a group if this spending time as a consultant should be required in fellowship training. There will also be an invitation for participation for an active discussion during and afterwards to include lived experiences of providers not on the panel. Review trauma center classification and the role of pediatric rehab consult service lines. We will also brainstorm what other value we bring to the hospital systems and the department and future research.

Learning Objectives:

To improve learning about treatment of SCI, TBI, ABI and amputations with the pediatric rehabilitation consult service.
Gain a better understanding of attending coverage, APC assistance, patient mix and practice style across the country for acute inpatient rehab consult services.
Have a better understanding of qualifications to be a level 1 trauma center.
Discuss importance of inpatient consults in pediatric rehab medicine fellowship training.
