This lecture will discuss the basics of MRI interpretation of the hip with regards to the physician audience. This will run the gamut of imaging interpretation from recognition of basic MRI anatomy in and around the hip joint to common and relatively uncommon disease processes. These pathological entities will include but not be limited to femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), ischiofemoral impingement syndrome, arthropathies, insertional gluteal tendinopathy, stress injury, and surrounding muscle injury that would commonly be seen in the clinical setting. Subtle articular, cartilage, and labral pathology will be emphasized. Both sports related and non-sports related injuries will be discussed.
The clinician will be familiarized with common MRI protocols, so as to set expectations with regard to MRI imaging quality. Both normal and abnormal appearances will be covered. The material will be directed at beginner to intermediate level clinician knowledge base.

Learning Objectives:

upon completion of this lecture the participant will be able to recognize normal MRI anatomy of the hip and surrounding structures.
upon completion of this lecture, the participants will be able to recognize common pathological entities in and around the hip.
upon completion of the lecture the participant will be able to diagnose femoroacetabular impingement based on MRI imaging.
