Background and/or Objectives: Although the earlier detection of the risk of delayed development is essential for proper initiation of management, most infants visit the clinic with parents’ suspicions of developmental delays. This study aims to suggest a methodology for acquiring multimodal information to utilize for early screening of the risk of developmental delay in prematurities.

Design: The protocol for collecting multimodal information on the spontaneous general movements consists of both the video recording and the motion analysis inertial sensor system at the time of corrected age (CA) 1 month and 3 months of infants.

Setting: Recording for at least 5 minutes, a physical therapist performs a general movement assessment using video while five sensors are attached to the infant's forehead, wrists, and ankles. Five inertial sensors (Xsens DOT, Netherlands) consisting of 3D gyroscopes, accelerometers, and a magnetometer are attached to the forehead and both wrists and ankles during acquisition. Data from the motion analysis system is compared to age-specific motor scores based on the video. The infant should be dressed comfortably and analysis should be discontinued during prolonged fussing, crying, or drowsiness.

Participants: Prematurity infant who was born at gestational age (GA) 27+1month with a birth weight of 1100 gm and was diagnosed with grade II germinal matrix hemorrhage (GMH)

Interventions: not applicable.

Main Outcome Measures: The results showed that the data from inertial motion analysis were sufficiently correlated to the specific findings of GMA.

Results: The cramped-synchronized general movement was observed during GMA, which showed correlated vector magnitude and position changes of inertial motion analysis.

Conclusions: This analysis combining the inertial analysis model with GMA suggests a feasible method for collecting multimodal motion data to develop an artificial intelligence algorithm for the risk evaluation of delayed development. Further trials with sufficient numbers of patients should be realized to refine and improve the protocol.
